Who sings the song My Eyes Adored You

My Eyes Adored You is a 1974 song written by Kenny Nolan and Bob Crewe. This song was released in the US in November 1974 and topped the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1975. However, another work by Kenny Nolan and Bob Crewe, "Lady Marmalade", replaced this song at #1 in March of the same year.

The first and original singer of the song My Eyes Adored You is Frankie Valli, it was originally recorded by The Four Seasons in early 1974. While this is credited only to Frankie Valli, his Four Seasons bandmates sang the song with him.

This song is about unrequited love. Valli sings about a girl he loved since his school days, but never reached. He was close to her, but he might be a million miles away.

They recorded the song for Motown, but they refused to release it. After the Motown label balked at the idea of releasing it, Valli bought the rights to the song for $ 4000 and sent it to another record company.

Valli was also rejected by Capitol and Atlantic Records. They finally got the record released on Private Stock Records, but the label owner / founder only wants the name Valli on their label.

The song became a big hit and revived Valli's career, the song was released in the US in November 1974 and topped the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1975. "My Eyes Adored You" also reached number 2 on the Easy Listening chart. Billboard ranked it as the No. 5 song for 1975.

This single is Valli's first hit as a solo artist on the Billboard's Hot 100. And remained there for one week, knocked out of the top position by another song written by Crewe and Nolan, "Lady Marmalade".

Despite being released as a solo effort by Valli, the song is sometimes included in the Four Seasons compilation album. It was from the album Closeup.

The success of "My Eyes Adored You" triggered a revival of interest in recordings by The Four Seasons. The band was subsequently signed to Warner Bros. Records as Valli's follow-up single, "Swearin' to God" was climbing to number 6 on the Hot 100.
